In Digital Arts II we have created a number of portraits. I learned how to capture people in using different techniques. I learned the difference between candid shots and staged shots. I learned how to talk to my clients and how to give them what they want while still creating a beautiful piece. As I prepared for the regional Skills USA competition I kept in mind all the tools I had learned . Portraiture, candid or not, is capturing a person's personality and essence. Portraits focus on people not objects. I was told to take various photos of my choice to showcase my strengths. I chose portraits because they are my favorite subcategory of photography.
I believe that in one picture of a person you can capture their entire personality. From the way their facial expression is displayed, to their body language and how it shows their emotions. Candids, like this one, especially capture one's essence. If I were to stage someone and tell them how to stand or smile it’s not showing their real selves. In this photo my friend just happened to be sitting in a sign and I just happened to capture the moment. I was drawn to this photo because it feels like you are being transferred into another universe as you take a glance at it. Photography is supposed to make you feel something and for that reason this piece spoke to me.
